Ingredients
  

  • 2.5 cup Cake flour Sifted
  • 1.5 cup Granulated sugar White sugar
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Divided for batter and frosting, room temperature
  • 4 Eggs Large, room temperature
  • 0.25 cup Fresh lemon juice Freshly squeezed
  • 2 tbsp Lemon zest Finely grated
  • 2 tsp Baking powder Ensure it is fresh
  • 0.5 cup Whole milk Room temperature
  • 4 cup Powdered sugar Sifted, for frosting
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Pure extract
  • 2 oz Blue icing In a piping bag
  • 2 oz Yellow icing In a piping bag
  • 1 garnish Lemon slices Whole lemon sliced thin for garnish
  • 0.5 cup Sugar flowers Edible decorations

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, cream 0.5 cups of butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in lemon juice and zest.
  • Combine cake flour and baking powder, then add to the wet mixture alternating with whole milk.
  • Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • For the frosting, beat remaining 0.5 cups of butter with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  • Frost the cooled layers smoothly with the white frosting to create a blank canvas.
  • Pipe decorative borders and accents using the blue and yellow icing.
  • Garnish the top with fresh lemon slices and edible sugar flowers before serving.
