Authentic Philadelphia Steak Sandwich Recipe - Easy Dinner

Classic Philadelphia Steak and Cheese Sandwich with Fries

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz Sliced beef (Ribeye) Thinly shaved against the grain
  • 4 count Hoagie rolls Sliced lengthwise and lightly toasted
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese Can substitute with Cheez Whiz if preferred
  • 1 cup White onion Thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Green bell pepper Thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil Divided use
  • 1 tsp Salt Kosher salt preferred
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 16 oz French fries Frozen or fresh cut

Instructions
 

  • Bake or fry the French fries according to package instructions until crispy. Keep warm.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and green bell peppers. Saute for 5 to 7 minutes until softened and lightly browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the thinly sliced beef. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until fully browned.
  • Mix the sauteed onions and peppers back into the skillet with the beef. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions directly in the pan.
  • Top each portion with 2 slices of provolone cheese. Let it melt for 1 minute off the heat.
  • Scoop each cheesy beef and pepper portion into a toasted hoagie roll. Serve immediately alongside the prepared French fries.
