Instructions
Boil a large pot of salted water. Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In the same pot or a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly golden.
Gradually whisk in whole milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in mustard powder, salt, and black pepper.
Gradually fold in the grated sharp cheddar cheese until completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
Return the cooked macaroni to the pot, stirring gently to coat the pasta in the cheese sauce. Serve immediately.
