Creamy Homemade Stove Top Macaroni

Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz Macaroni pasta Dry pasta
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter Melted over medium heat
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour Used to create the roux
  • 2 cups Whole milk Warmed slightly for smoother mixing
  • 2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese Freshly grated
  • 1/2 tsp Salt To taste
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper Freshly cracked
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard powder Adds a subtle tang

Instructions
 

  • Boil a large pot of salted water. Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In the same pot or a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Gradually whisk in whole milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  • Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in mustard powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Gradually fold in the grated sharp cheddar cheese until completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
  • Return the cooked macaroni to the pot, stirring gently to coat the pasta in the cheese sauce. Serve immediately.
