Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place a 9-inch cast iron skillet inside while the oven heats.
In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, eggs, honey, and vegetable oil.
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven. Add the butter and swirl to coat the bottom and sides.
Pour the batter into the hot skillet. Return to the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
